Coming In From The Cold

A nice quote from Fidel Edwards at the top of the page.

Very true, and somehow not surprising coming from one of the modern West Indian players who nearly always looks up for it, unlike some of his fellows.

Not that it explains what he's got against Jimmy Anderson.

Brian, one thing about Fidel is he is one of those rare creatures who truly loves cricket for what it is...I don't berate the likes of Pietersen or Gayle for loving the money more as it's perfectly normal for any sane human being to want to earn a living, but the sight of a guy who can come out from some red-hot form in T20s and transform that into a six-fer in Test cricket in the chilly conditions of England in May surely tells you something about the lad....it's always a pleasure watching him, always remember Andre Nel (now sadly retired to Surrey), who always had a lot of theatrics up his sleeve. You could pay to watch the look on his face if you got a top-edged hook to the boundary...though Fidel was quite strangely pumped up when bowling to Jimmy, I loved his reaction to dismiss him...we should take every opportunity to watch such good bowlers when they last

Thanks, Tragic, for a great comment. I agree with every word.

The chief problem for the modern-day West Indies isn't a lack of talent, it's a lack of preparation (WI dometic cricket is too weak to prepare people for the step up to international cricket) and, most importantly of all, a lack of the right attitude. Edwards, along with Bravo, Sarwan and Chanderpaul (of course) is one of those who has the right attitude, even when it's a freezing English May.
